Lines of Lines

Some few months ago, I was really into making things art nouveau-like involving a lot of tedious effort to make patterns, little details, and almost-perfect lines.

SCARY STORIES

Just in time on halloween. Here's some things for you all to look at!

Originally, this was an assignment to make a new book cover for our favorite author/book. I chose Scary Stories wirtten by Alvin Schwartz, with beautiful illustrations by Stephen Gammell. My goal was to get that same feeling of horror when looking at Gammell's drawings. Have I succeeded?

May everyone have a crazy-filled halloween!

Bless you.

My cat likes to sneeze on me while I sleep.
And then he bites me after he tricks me into thinking that he actually wants cuddles.

Experi-mental

So like, you know how sometimes you get these inconvenient things called 'artists block'?
I feel like it's caused by when you get bored of how you're drawing, and you need something completely new and different out of your comfort zone to excite you all over again. Or maybe it's not even just being bored with how you're drawing, but the things you make don't make you happy anymore, or they start to infuriate you because everything you try making just doesn't come to any sort of self-satisfaction.
So over the summer, I was able to throw my art block out the fire escape by using a bunch of mixed media techniques; gouache, pastels, brush-inking, etc. I would think of what emotion would be coming to mind or which direction my hand feels like it should go instead of my brain telling which direction my hand should go in.

This was the start of it, inspired by Masha

So last fall-winter...

Would be about the appropriate time I made the majority of these sketches. A year later, I decide to finally upload them (great job).

Adam and Eve

Merging/Melting

Splitting Crosses

Witch Dance

Happiness

Violent Anxiety

Tangled Trees

Hell Sisters

More recent things to come sooniesh.

Also- a complete new design for my blog! Much prettier than before.

Edit- maybe a bit too green? Makes me think of puke. But green happens to be one of my favorite colors. I'm conflicted with ugliness and favorite colors. Oh well.

Oh, hell.

A little hell series I did way back in winter. I had the bright idea that making a series based on pages that I've torn from my sketchbook was a really good idea.

The Daytime Moon

Luckily I got to see this beauty right from my fire escape. The only reasonable thing to do was to break out my gouache and inks right away and sketch this gem.

Follow that guy. I mean skeleton.

Made kind of on a whim a few months ago while riding on an airplane back to Ohio. Sky-viewing gives a lot to leave to the imagination. That's why I always get the window seat.
Of course, plane-riding at night is way more epic.

A patch? For you?

These were some ideas I had in mind for creating some patches. I'll be attempting at carving in some of these designs in stamps and see how they turn out.

Creature Creature

Three of my favorite things: rainbows, creatures, and trees all made up in the vast space we call the universe.
Made for Sonja's final project.

Ahoy!

Well, last semester was definitely a struggle.
Anyhoo, this was my final project for digital painting. We had to create a self-portrait for a 'person of the year' Time magazine cover.
The lotus flower was very obviously rushed. Me and my terrible procrastination of finishing things last minute. Oy.

And here's the background that was a lot of fun to draw out.

Creatures creatures everywhere!

Leftovers

These were the last three projects I did for visual self-expression. Lots o' wack with those classes...

Oils

Until a few months ago, I've never touched oils.

Painted in greyscale first before going straight to color.

Finished product; it was a lot of fun. It's a terrible photo though.

first painting

of the new year. How lame is it that I'm awake really early with no hangover and not feeling like a hot mess?

I haven't touched my watercolors in a while, and I just found a very strong re-newed love for them again. Made this on a whim after re-watching The Red Balloon which brought back happy childhood memories!
